Freddy vs Jason
Review (5.5/10)
(By Brendan Cullin)

It was ten years in the making but the showdown between two of the biggest icons in horror movie history has finally reached the big screen. In Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy Krueger awakens a dormant, but always ready to kill, Jason Vorhees and through Jason, he hopes to create enough terror amongst a group of sex-crazed, pot-smoking, alcoholic, bad acting teenagers so Freddy himself can gain enough power to start killing them himself. Apparently, Freddy feeds off the terror of these teenagers to gain his strength to kill. Freddy hasn't made a movie in so many years that his killing power has waned. Jason, on the other hand, was just in Jason X last year, so he was raring to go.

For the most part, Freddy vs. Jason wasn't any more or any less than what I expected it to be. It had everything that we have come to expect from a movie starring Freddy or Jason - a bad story, bad acting, lots of blood, beautiful boobs, hot chicks, one dimensional teenagers (unless, of course, sex, pot and beer is three dimensions) and the worst police department in the world. But the one thing that separates this movie from any other slasher flick is the showdown between Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees. Seeing this fight is alone worth the price of admission. It was fabulous. It must be a dream come true for devout fans of each killer. It would be like seeing Alien vs. Predator; like seeing Rambo vs. Terminator; Braveheart vs. Gladiator. It is definitely a dream come true for some people. It is just too bad that the final battle doesn't take place until last twenty minutes of the film. I found myself, at the one hour mark, wondering why this movie was even titled "Freddy vs. Jason". I would have liked to have seen them go at it for more than the last twenty minutes of the movie, perhaps even the entire film - while killing beautiful big-breasted women at the same time, of course. It just seems that after ten years in the making, they could have come up with more than a twenty minute fight.

Overall, I would have to say, if you are a fan of either Jason or Freddy, see this movie, if not for the final showdown alone. You will enjoy it. If you are a fan of horror movies, you will probably think it is okay. I don't know if I would even classify this movie as a horror flick, to tell you the truth. It is not scary. There is only one scene in the entire movie where I jumped and that scene didn't have either Jason or Freddy in it. This movie should be classified as somewhere between slasher flick and a comedy (except in most comedies, people don't get their head cut off with blood squirting all over the place). Not surpisingly, this movie sets us up for yet another sequel. Apparently the talks have already started about a Freddy/Jason vs. Ash. Who the hell is Ash you may ask? I don't know is my answer. I read he is the guy from Army of Darkness. I never saw that movie. Perhaps a Freddy/Jason vs. Michael Myers would be cool. Or a Freddy/Jason vs. Chucky. Or a Freddy/Jason vs. The Blair Witch. Let the debates begin amongst the horror geeks. Let's just all hope we don't have to wait another ten years for the next movie because we all know it will be made.
