In Good Company
Review (6.5/10)
(By Brendan Cullin)

Dennis Quaid stars as Dan Foreman, the top sales manager at one of America's best sports magazines. He has a beautiful wife and two young daughters, both of whom he is very protective. His daughter Alex (Scarlett Johansson) is heading off to New York University and Dan is concerned, to say the least. But his concerns shift focus when the magazine is taken over by a giant multinational company called Worldcom and a feisty young executive named Carter Duryea (Topher Grace) is sent in to make the magazine even more profitable. Dan is demoted, Carter cleans house of many of the inflated salaries and much to the chagrin of Dan, Carter falls in love with Alex. Needless to say, this leads to some strained moments at the workplace and soon the successful 26-year old Carter, who seems to have the world at his fingertips, slowly sees his world come crashing down around him.

In Good Company is a mildly entertaining movie. It has a handful of laughs, a few surprising moments, likeable characters and Scarlett Johansson. It seems like there is not much more you could ask for from a movie, but there are times where the movie does drag a bit (not a lot) and it does seem overly long for the type of movie that it is, with a running time of more than 2 hours. It also has one of those endings that just sort of leaves you hanging and wondering, but I suppose that isn't always a bad thing.

The movie perhaps could have used a little more of that magic feeling you sometimes get from your typical fluffy romantic comedy type of movie but I still found myself liking what was going on between Carter and Alex. Daddy's girl was being very naughty! And it would have been nice to see a couple of those corporate a-holes from the movie really get their asses kicked but that probably is asking for too much. There were a couple of ass-kickings but not nearly enough for my liking.

Overall, I would say that In Good Company is a moderately entertaining movie. Perhaps not something I would run out to the theatre to see but a decent "date" movie and down the road, an okay rental. Not the best movie that I have seen this year or even this month but still decent entertainment.
