The Perfect Man
Review (6.5/10)
(By Brendan Cullin)

The Perfect Man stars Hilary Duff as Holly Hamilton, a teenage girl who, along with her little sister Zoe (Aria Wallace), is constantly moving around the United States because their mother Jean (Heather Locklear) is always in bad relationships and feels the need to move her whole family to run away from her problems. Their latest move lands them in New York City where Holly takes it upon herself to introduce her mother to the perfect man. She creates a secret admirer who leaves Jean flowers, notes and sends her romantic emails. Her source of information is a restaurant owner named Ben (Chris Noth), who she bleeds for information as she invents the perfect man. Unfortunately, Jean falls hard for the fake Ben and not surprisingly, teenage hijinks ensue.

The Perfect Man is pretty much the movie you'd expect it to be, maybe even a bit better. This movie is not going to win any awards or make money hand over fist but it is a cute teen comedy that will be appealing to most teens, women and single mothers. Hell, I even had to laugh at a few parts in the movie, particularly the dude named Lenny (Mike O'Malley) who relentlessly pursues Jean to be the love of his life. Actually, now that I think about it, the guy from "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" was pretty damn funny himself.

With that being said, there are moments in The Perfect Man that just defy all logic. Like Jean and her two daughters living in a decent apartment in New York City on her wages as an employee as a baker. Or the fact that Holly flooded Ben's restaurant just to keep her little game going was just ridiculous. And the fact that he didn't strangle her for doing it was even more unlikely.

But despite its few assinine moments, The Perfect Man really isn't that bad of a movie. Mind you, I don't plan on ever seeing it again, but it has a few chuckles, some likeable characters and it doesn't take itself too seriously so I really can't complain about it too much. It's a movie made for a particular crowd and that crowd will probably love The Perfect Man. As for everyone else, it's probably a hit or a miss. For me, it was somewhere in between.
