Though it seemingly stalled in development over a year ago, NBC is continuing with it plans to remake multi-award winning British police procedural "Prime Suspect".

Created by Lynda La Plante, the first "Prime Suspect" four-hour mini-series in 1991 featured Helen Mirren in a star-making turn as no-nonsense Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison. As she investigated a series of serial rape-murders, she had to deal with sexist hostility from her male comrades.

Five more four-hour minis and three two-hour TV movies followed over the next fifteen years, each dealing with different issue ranging from homophobia and illegal immigrants to racism and war crimes.

The remake shifts the action to a tough New York precinct where Tennison will similarly face a very male-dominated and sexist society.

The main issue for the previous attempt stalling was casting issues, mainly trying to find someone who could come close to the quality of Mirren's portrayal. Julianne Moore turned down the role last year.

Alexandra Cunningham is writing and will executive produce alongside Sarah Aubrey and Peter Berg, with Berg directing the pilot.
