Next Summer, "Under the Dome" Gets Renew

So much for thoughts that the "dome" would come down anytime soon. CBS has officially renewed the summer drama series, based on the Stephen King novel, for a second season.

The show premiered in late June where it scored a 4.3 rating and 16.7 million total viewers (with DVR factored in). That's the biggest audience for a drama series premiere in the past year.

While it slipped a bit in its second week, it has stayed fairly steady since then. The network's content licensing deal with Amazon also offsets the show's pricey $3 million-per-episode budget.

Many thought the thirteen episode first season would be a one-off due to the nature of the book, but the show's producers Neal Baer and Brian K. Vaughan have previously spoken about the story stretching beyond the time span featured in the novel.

They've also boasted plans of an entirely different ending which King is reportedly "really excited by".
