Disney Pictures, Japanese Animation House Reteam For "Wind Rises"

Disney Pictures is once again teaming with the Japanese animation house for Hayao Miyazaki's latest feature.

Disney has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises," a dramatised animated biopic about Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the iconic WW2 Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane.

The film opened in Japan in late July where it has pulled in over $74 million at the box-office so far. The film has its premiere in North America at the Toronto Film Festival.

Disney's last Studio Ghibli theatrical release States-side was "The Secret World of Arrietty" back in February 2012. GKids, who scored the theatrical rights to Ghibli back catalog for retrospective screenings, handled the release of "From Up on Poppy Hill" in North America earlier this year.

No word on a release date as yet, though an English voice dub will likely be recorded in the next few months ahead of a release sometime next year or in early 2015.
