Details On "Locke" Feature

When the first clip premiered the other day for the Tom Hardy-led drama "Locke" many were probably wondering why they hadn't heard of it before.

Turns out, there's good reason. Steven Knight's low-budget confined space UK drama, which has its world premiere in Venice today, was shot over the course of just eight nights.

"Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises" star Hardy plays Ivan Locke, an ordinary guy with a loving wife, two kids, and is on the eve of the biggest moment of his career as a construction director. His whole life soon changes over the course of one single 85 minute car journey.

Knight, who rose to prominence as a scribe on such films as "Eastern Promises," first had the idea back in November last year. By the last week of February, they were filming. The action in the film never leaves the car, and unfolds in real time.

Five major British supporting actors were also involved in the project albeit all offscreen - Olivia Colman ("Broadchurch"), Ruth Wilson ("Luther"), Ben Daniels ("House of Cards"), Andrew Scott ("Sherlock") and Tom Holland ("The Impossible"). For the six nights Hardy filmed, the actors called in live on the phone in the car from a hotel room while Hardy was driving around.

Shot for just under $2 million, Lionsgate UK holds the domestic rights.
