Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Greengrass Deny Recent Rumors

Two major British talents have denied online reports that have swirled in recent weeks about upcoming projects.

First up, reps for actor Benedict Cumberbatch have categorically denied reports that the "Sherlock" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" star has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII".

The reps tell the New York Daily News: "There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars. I think the rumours are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek."

Of course, when it comes to an Abrams-related project - even official denials in the past have proven to be useless as the original reports proved to be right on several occasions.

More concrete a denial comes from "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" filmmaker Paul Greengrass.

Asked about recent rumors that he and Matt Damon have been in very early talks to return to the Bourne franchise, he tells Empire he has no idea where the talk started:

"I’ve absolutely no idea. I’m not being funny but, no, that’s just a figment of someone’s imagination."

Asked about the last time he and Damon had a serious conversation about it, the director sounds like he has no desire to return to the franchise:

"We might have a laugh about it, but a serious conversation? Not for a long time ... listen, I loved the Bourne movies. I loved making them but it’s like anything in life, you’ve got to move on and do different things."

Greengrass' next film is the Tom Hanks-led "Captain Phillips" which hits cinemas next month.
