**Editor’s Note: My 10-year-old daughter is a big Harry Potter fan. I brought her to see the movie and this is her review.**

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is based on the first half of the final book in the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. In the movie, Harry, Ron and Hermione are on the run and looking for 5 Horcruxes, little pieces of Voldemort’s soul. Two Horcruxes have already been destroyed, the diary and the ring, and they have a copy of the third Horcrux, a locket with a note that was signed R.A.B. The last movie ended with the characters needing to find out who R.A.B. is in order to track down the real locket. But once they find the locket, it is almost impossible to destroy because only a few rare things can destroy a Horcrux. Also, the bit of Voldemort in the Horcrux doesn’t want to be destroyed, so the wearer faces danger if they come close to destroying it. But before they can go on their journey, Harry still has the Trace on him because he is an underage wizard, allowing the Ministry to track any magic around him. Because the Order of the Phoenix doesn’t trust the Ministry anymore, he has to be moved somewhere other than Privet Drive until he is of age. At the beginning the movie the Order comes to help bring him to safety without Voldemort’s Death Eaters knowing. Although the Death Eaters discover their plan, Harry narrowly escapes to the Burrow which has protective enchantments that keep him safe. When a Patronus arrives to tell them that Death Eaters have killed the Minister of Magic and have taken over the Ministry, giving them power to break the enchantments that keep Harry safe, Harry, Ron and Hermione apparate, leading them to #12 Grimmauld Place where their journey begins.

I have read the Deathly Hallows book several times and I found the first part of the movie to be very close to the book. However, there were several scenes that weren’t in the movie that I would liked to have seen, mostly scenes explaining why Harry, Ron and Hermione do some of the things they do — like why Harry has to move away from Privet Drive. Because I have read the book I understood all of the movie, but if you haven’t read the book you probably wouldn’t understand several parts. But it was very, very close and I’m glad.

In this movie I really liked how they did The Tale of Three Brothers and I think that it was a very creative way to do that scene. I also really liked the scene when the Order of the Phoenix came to Privet Drive and everyone took the Polyjuice Potion to turn into Harry so they could try to confuse the Death Eaters with seven Potters, and after that the journey to the Burrow. I also really liked the scene where they break into the Ministry of Magic and the scene at Malfoy Manor with Voldemort and all of the Death Eaters.

I really enjoyed all of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. I think the only things that I didn’t like about it were the scenes they did not include that I would liked to have seen, like more of the Burrow and more of Bill and Fleur’s wedding. Also, I think they should have included more of Kreacher’s tale about “Master Regulus’s Locket” and more of #12 Grimmauld Place before they went to the Ministry. Other than that, I don’t think there is much more that I didn’t like. It is a very good movie as it is and I would not change anything about the movie except add more of those scenes.

I think that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a fantastic movie and it is easily my favourite Harry Potter movie yet. I would definitely highly recommend this movie to anyone. Now I am really, really excited for July when the second half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows comes out in theaters and I know it will be as great as this movie was, if not better.
