D.J. Caruso On

Out doing press for "I Am Number Four", director D.J. Caruso ("Disturbia," "Eagle Eye") tells Cinema Blend that three potential future projects he has been linked to are all quite some time off.

"The Defenders", the story of players of an MMORPG game who are all drawn together for a real-life adventure, is still in scripting stages with Marti Noxon ("Buffy," "Fright Night") currently at work on it. Caruso says he won't be directing the film, but will be producing.

"The Art of Making Money", the true story drama about Chicago counterfeiter Art Williams, has Chris Pine attached to star in it. Caruso is keen to do the film but Pine's busy schedule, specifically his commitments to shoot the Jack Ryan franchise reboot "Moscow" and the "Star Trek" sequel, mean it's some time off. Caruso also admits the script is still being tweaked a bit.

The big one though that everyone is keen to see is the long-gestating adaptation of the beloved comic series "Y: The Last Man". Linked since mid-2007 to the film, Caruso says the project "is pretty much dead" as far as he's concerned. "I got where I did as far as I did with New Line and Warners. It’s just, unfortunately, not going to work out" he adds.

Caruso does say that a sequel to "I Am Number Four", based on the second novel of the six book series, could get underway but it'll depend upon how the first goes at the box-office.
